Regional Head of HR, French Speaking Countries – Africa

Reporting to the Group Director of HR, responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the ongoing delivery of the Group’s Human Resource strategy, policies, and procedures for the Central and Southern Africa Region. Partner with the Regional CEO’s, Regional Executive team and the Regional Directors to provide input into and develop policies that align to the strategic goals of the business.

-Provide HR technical support and business partnering to the OpCo HR Managers and their MDs
-Support the Group Director of HR on Regional HR issues and provide HR advise to the Regional Directors and the Regional CEO
-Act as a back-up for the Head of HR position in the Regional OpCo as and when required
-Develop and implement policies and systems to attract, retain and develop the best and engaged talent in the region
-Develop and implement systems to ensure that performance management processes are in place enabling consistency and compliance across the region, including performance improvement and disciplinary actions.
-Work with each OpCo/location within the region to define the annual SG&A / HR budget, track, and monitor spending against budget working with Group Finance.
-With support from group, oversee the annual bonus and pay review process ensuring policies and procedures are adhered to.
-Work closely with the group team members to ensure that OpCo’s in the region receive appropriate support on all issues of training, comp, and ben as well as talent acquisition
-Own the data within the Human Resource Information System ensuring that it is accurate and complete for the region. Work with IT and Group Director of HR to implement extensions of the system or introduce new IT HR systems as required and permitted by budget, to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and reporting capability.
-Coordinate the biannual Employee Engagement and Culture Survey across the region. Work with each location to develop action plans to address areas of concern. -Provide regular reporting on the progress each OpCo / location is making. Maintain and improve upon the previous engagement scores.
-Ensure all company HR policies, procedures, and guidelines (Group and OpCo) are reviewed and updated as necessary
-Become Human Resources Area Lead for any new market acquisition in the Region.
-Monitor employment legislation developments in the region, assessing the impact on the company and implementing actions to ensure the company remains compliant.
-Responsible for oversight, standardisation (where appropriate) and implementation of all company benefits in the region in line with the group strategy on benefits
-Oversee engagement with any Unions within the OpCos in the region and support with negotiations in the developing any collective bargaining agreements.
-With support from group Recruitment Manager, allocate internal and/recruit external resources to assist with new market entries.

Required Qualifications:

-10 + years’ experience in Human Resources, 5 years within a senior Regional HR position
-Educated to degree level, ideally with post graduate qualifications in HR (such as CIPD)
-Experience of working in Central & Southern Africa
-Experience of using and overseeing the management of HR Information System to ensure data integrity
-Overseeing the effective execution of HR Annual processes
-Resilient leader with the ability to lead by example
-Ability to coach and effectively lead the HR teams to develop continuous improvement strategies, influence decision making, and drive continuous improvement initiatives within HR department
-Ability to communicate clear goals and strategic drivers to the teams and to influence at all levels
-Excellent oral and written communication skills – fluent French and English
-Effective stakeholder engagement – track record of building and maintaining solid relationships
-Monitoring and reporting on regional updates and KPI’s
-Working with Group HR colleagues on agreed projects
