The GM plays an integral part within the senior management team and holds joint responsibility for creating a vision for the company in Malawi. Developing the strategic & operational plans to deliver the revenue & operational performance targets, whilst creating an environment of Business Excellence continuous improvement. Responsible for the overseeing all the functions within our operations while working closely with the Group Functional Teams to embed the company’s values of Integrity, Partnership and Excellence in to all aspects of the business in accordance with the objectives of the Group’s Sustainable Business Strategy. The MD should have an ethos of Customer Service Excellence and drive that throughout the entire organisation. A key part of this role and success driver is to build high performing teams who are clear on the strategic goals, own our Values & Vision and are motivated and trained to drive our operational performance.

•Contribute to the development of our Malawi corporate strategy, ensuring that this adheres to the plan for the company
•Work closely with the FD to monitor our operations in Malawi operating efficiency and meet the revenue and EBITDA targets
•Lead and direct strategy development, which enables the company to reach its short and long-term objectives
•Produce reports on company operations highlighting the risks, challenges and corrective actions
•Measure and report on operational performance and develop plans to improve relevant KPIs
•Empower the operational team with the leadership and resources they need to successfully complete their assigned initiatives
•Develop and maintain all necessary systems and procedures to ensure that company operations comply with all legal requirements and meet agreed operational standards
•Regularly review operations to ensure that these meet required standards and recommend changes where necessary
•Actively manage relationships with key customers to establish their needs and ensure the company is delivering on its growth objectives
•Leading the Supply Chain Management function to anticipate and smoothing the supply of all essential equipment’s & energy resources to deliver high quality of services for our clients
•Act as the company’s main advisor on all issues relating to operational functions and keep abreast of latest developments to ensure that the company maintains its competitive position

•Oversee the development and performance of direct reports against key performance indicators
•Cascade the Sustainability Key Performance Indicators to drive the OpCo performance
•Drive organizational Development and business continuity though building of key capabilities & development of High Potentials
•Ensure alignment with our Policies and Country regulatory requirements to mitigate any risk
•Drive Ethics Management and champion Corporate Governance within both internal and external stakeholders
•Work closely with Compliance to ensure ownership of our Code of conduct and conflict of interest policy
•Building and Supporting Teams
•Driving Continuous change – innovation

Required Qualifications:

•Degree in Engineering, Business or relevant fields
•Min 10+ years of experience working in Senior Management roles
•10+ years of hands-on’ experience in Engineering, Telecom , Power , Oil or related business
•Strong commercial understanding, with experience overseeing operations similar to Mining, Telecom, Oil & Gas, Power industries & others
•Experience in leading P&L with competent financial acumen
•Operational experience in Malawi
•Certifications; Lean Six Sigma Black Belt

•Resilient Leader with the ability to lead by example and drive the organisation
•Ability to coach and lead leaders to develop continuous improvement strategies, influence decision making, and drive continuous improvement initiatives within our operations
•Ability to work within the wide our Group executive team, taking group strategies and deploying them in Malawi.
•Demonstrated ability to think creatively and develop solutions to drive sustainable revenue & margin growth
•Analytical thinker and demonstrable abilities to deploy solutions & initiatives to drive operational improvements and cost reductions following a Lean Six Sigma methodology or similar
•Ability to develop & lead multicultural teams in complex environments
•Ability to communicate clear goals and strategic drivers to the teams
•Excellent oral and written communication skills
•Ability to manage projects, operational and business-as-usual activities concurrently
